2008-2009 Projects

These trash cans were distributed to intermediate, middle and high schools in the Jackson-Madison County school system. The art classes took a plain, ordinary waste receptacle and turned it into a work of art. These students wanted to raise awareness about litter in Madison County, and this was a great display in which to do that.

The public voted for their favorite design in three categories: Intermediate School, Middle School, and High School.

For the hard work, all students received prizes donated by local businesses. The winners received gift baskets valued at $300 each, and was recognized at the County Commission meeting Oct. 22, 2008.

Our thanks to all the sponsors, students and faculty, and the public for making this inaugural contest a success!

Here are just a few of the promotional items used this year to "Stop Litter in Madison County". The basketballs and footballs were thrown into the stands by cheerleaders at local games. The shirts, water bottles, and reusable grocery bags were a big hit at Earth Day, held in April at the TDOT center.
