Madison County Trustee’s Office
A note from Billy Burkhead, Madison County Trustee:
I want to thank you for giving me the wonderful opportunity to serve you as your Trustee. My staff and I are very excited about the changes and updates that have been made in the office. I want to take a moment to encourage you to stop by any time with questions, concerns, or to find out more about what we do in the office. We are located on the first floor of the courthouse.
The Trustee serves three primary functions: (1) collecting all county property taxes (all property, real and personal, tangible and intangible, must be assessed for taxation by the state or its political subdivisions unless property is declared to be exempt by some provision of Tennessee law); (2) keeping a fair regular account of all money received; and (3) investing temporarily idle county funds. The trustee disburses sales tax revenues and may collect municipal property taxes and other state and local taxes. The trustee generally acts as treasurer for the county, receiving and paying out funds. The trustee must keep a detailed account of these transactions.
We are working diligently to make your Trustee’s office the best in customer service and offer you the most up-to-date services available. If you ever have questions or need assistance, never hesitate to call us at (731) 423-6027 or stop by the office.
